Introduction

OLC (On-Line Computers) have been working with the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureau (NACAB) for over 20 years now.  One of the goals of the company as set by the then Managing Director - Peter Hearne was to work in ethical market places and in line with this aim, OLC focused on partnering with Academic and Charitable organisations for the provision and support of ICT Solutions. 

Small Beginnings

The company's relationship with the NACAB and the CAB Service stemmed, initially from a partnership with a local CAB in Morecambe.  At this time, ICT was a new innovation within the CAB service and a very high degree of customer support was required in order to make best use of the available technologies in that specific environment.  Based on a very productive and favourable relationship with Morecambe and other local CABx, OLC came to the attention of the NACAB North West Regional Development Officer and then after a successful partnership at the North West NACAB Conference, OLC were introduced to the National Association itself based in London and the, then fledgling, IT Helpdesk in Swindon. 

Working with NACAB and Milestones

Over the following years, OLC and NACAB's ICT Support Desk developed a highly interactive and productive relationship, working in cooperation to evaluate and deliver new technologies to CABx throughout England and Wales.  Some milestones in this relationship were:

·         Working in partnership with NACAB for over 7 years to provide the organisations ICT Presence at the NACAB Annual General Meeting in York. 

·         Negotiating a Microsoft Select Agreement for the CAB Service to allow the highest level of discount on Microsoft product.

·         Winning a tender to supply PC and Laptop hardware to every CABx in England and Wales.  This entailed the individual delivery and invoicing of 500+ desktop systems, 225+ laptops and 500+ Laser printers to 778 individual CAB addresses with a total value of over £1m.  This, including full duplicate documentation to NACAB, was carried out in one month from receipt of order.

Current Situation

OLC continue to work with NACAB to supply and support CABx nationwide and although the requirement for customer support has lessened during the term of our relationship with the CAB Service, the provision of fully supported ICT Solutions it is still a central element of OLC's work with NACAB.
